Hands-On Learning

At Polka-Dot Montessori, we embrace the philosophy that "What the hand does, the mind remembers," as espoused by our founder, Dr. Maria Montessori. This idea is rooted in the concept of hands-on learning, also known as experiential learning, where students engage in direct experience and focused reflection to enhance their knowledge, skills, and values.

In a Montessori environment, hands-on learning opportunities are plentiful. This approach allows children to learn by doing, and to fully immerse themselves in the learning process. It encourages them to become active participants, rather than passive recipients of information.

At Polka-Dot Montessori, we recognize the importance of hands-on learning for our students. Dr. Montessori realized that children benefit from real-world, hands-on applications for learning, and that this approach enhances their understanding and retention of new knowledge.

Through hands-on activities, such as cleaning a table or stacking blocks, children learn essential skills and values, such as care for their environment and precision of movement. Furthermore, hands-on learning promotes creative thinking and encourages students to experiment and explore the tools, substances, and problems that they may encounter in their future careers.
